Tonight's lunar eclipse was totally cool! We were fortunate enough to witness the alignment of the sun, earth and moon all at the same time. A local astronomer says this rarely happens. We could look to the West and see the sun, then to the East and see the moon, with us standing between them. It was like being in the middle of a celestial body sandwich :o) We had about 10 minutes of that glorious sight before the sun dipped below the horizon.
Later as the eclipse got going, my family watched in awe as the moon darkened, got a deep red color, then returned back to normal. We had perfectly clear skies, so had a perfect view for the whole thing. It was also great to see Saturn and Regulus shining brightly.
I feel so fortunate to have witnessed such a beautiful event.
