Ever stop to read something interesting in a public restroom? I recently did. I was kind of glad nobody was around to witness me standing there in front of the paper towel dispenser reading, instead of drying my hands and going on my way. But it was interesting, and also it was put there so people would read it. I knew some of the info on this sign, but had not heard all of it, so I also learned something while I was standing there in front of the paper towel dispenser.
So, what had me so interested that I had to read it all? Here, see for yourself. Sorry it's a little blurry, I quickly snapped the photo with my cell phone.
What do you think? Some of it just makes you go EWWW! But the third one from the end, the pink one, was most interesting to me. I really thought about that one, and then went back to wash my hands again to see if I really did wash my left hand more thoroughly than the right. Yep, since I already washed my hands once, you could say I practiced "lather, rinse, repeat". Apparently, it's not just for hair... :o)
I really did try to wash as I normally would. I don't know, but I think my hands get about equally clean. I've always been a thorough hand-washer. It would be tempting to watch someone else wash that didn't know this little factoid, and see what the difference is, but I don't want people thinking I'm some weird hand-washing-watcher-bathroom-creeper. Also, have you ever tried to wash for 15 seconds? I did. It felt like forever. 30 seconds would feel like an eternity! The sign doesn't say it, but I'll bet people usually spend 5 seconds or less rubbing the soap around on their hands.
So, next time you wash your hands, see if you think your non-dominant hand gets cleaner.
Happy washing!
